Our new energy-saving series of Half-Light Controllers provides independent control for multiple ballast light fixtures from a single existing wall switch. Two Stage and Three Stage Half-Light Controllers can significantly reduce a building's light output, enabling professional lighting users to cost-effectively enjoy the benefits of lighting control with just a simple toggle of their wall-based light switch. Easy to use and install, Half-Light Controllers from Functional Devices are fully compatible with the market’s range of popular fluorescent and HID lamps and represent a simple and affordable alternative to the industry's costlier and more complicated dimming systems and components.

How it works

The half-light® Series installs in the wiring compartment of almost any light fixture and uses existing switches (*Except for HAF-AI) to start lighting levels at 50% and then can be sequenced to full light and then back again enabling a person to sequence through the dimming scenario.

*Uses analog output of a controller

The Two Stage Half-Light® (HAF2) is designed for a 2-ballast, 4 lamp fixture where each ballast controls two lamps. Within this configuration, an initial toggle "on" of the wall switch activates only one ballast to produce 50% light; by toggling the switch "off" then "on" again, both ballasts will be activated to deliver full light output. The sequence can be easily restarted by holding the switch in the "off" mode for at least 5 seconds.

  • Up to 50% energy savings
  • Potential 2 year ROI
  • Does not change voltage waveform
  • Installs easily in wiring compartment of light fixture
  • Uses existing wall switch
  • Bi-level lighting control
  • Passive energy savings
  • Can be used with motion sensing switches
  • Low cost
  • 120 Vac / 208-277 Vac
  • Made in USA
  • UL Listed, C-UL, CE approved

The Three Stage Half-Light® (HAF3) is designed for a 6 lamp fixture where one ballast controls two lamps and the other ballast controls the remaining four lamps. Within this configuration, an initial toggle "on" of the wall switch activates ballast one only to deliver 33% light; toggling the switch "off" then "on" again will activate ballast two only to produce 67% light, and by toggling the switch "off" and "on" again a final time, both ballasts will be activated to deliver full light output. Like the Two Stage Half-Light®, the sequence can be easily restarted by holding the switch in the "off" mode for at least 5 seconds.

Three Stage Half-Light™

The Three Stage Half-Light™ (HAF3) is designed for a 6 lamp fixture where one ballast controls two lamps and the other ballast controls the remaining four lamps. Step Dimming Ballast Control

The Half-Light™ controller can be used in conjunction with step dimming ballasts, as well as conventional magnetic and electronic ballasts. By switching between the step dimming input and the primary input, 50% light can be achieved when switch is on and full light when switch is cycled off then on again.

Alternate Fixture Control

The Half-Light® controller can be used to control alternating fixtures by switching between the Half-Light® controlled fixture and the normal line voltage controlled fixture. 50% light level is achieved by the first cycle on, while cycling off then on achieves full light.
